“Dick Rivington and the Cat” previews Dec. I’m on a bit of a Studio Ghibli kick at the moment, and since watching this movie I’ve watched the older effort Whisper of the Heart, a gorgeous teenage love story. THE CAT RETURNS is a magical animated adventure that will delight and inspire everyone. With pop music, an 80s-inspired dance off, and over-the-top jokes galore, this unforgettable, uniquely New York story is great entertainment for the whole family.

They describe their latest creation as:Ī celebration of resilience and community centered on the Lower East Side, this rags-to-riches story tells the tale of a young immigrant and their feline friend who overcome enormous hardships to make their dreams come true. The duo are well-known in the neighborhood, having lived and performed here for many years, not to mention they got married at Abrons Arts Center, as well. The performers were cast from the Lower East Side and some of the performances will be designated “neighborhood nights.” This season’s panto-style extravangza, “ Dick Rivington & the Cat,” is created by local artists Julie Atlas Muz and Mat Fraser.

The team who brought the fun-filled holiday spectacular, “ Jack and the Beanstock,” to Abrons a few years ago is back with another show dedicated to the Lower East Side.
